7 SEDIMENTOS
The exhibition at LOCAL4 provides a curious insight into the complex creation of the Swiss artist and writer JEAN WILLI.

Work from different periods shows interesting points of intersection which challenge the visitor with a new entity staged in the gallery space. A real insider tip even for people who are familiar with the work of JEAN WILLI.

On two evenings WILLI will read from his new novel MATAR, which will also be presented at the annual Crime and Murder Mysteries event in Burgdorf (Switzerland, as well as from his narration DER TAG VON SANTA INES and other texts.

6 MONUMOMENTO
Images, that for one moment stand out from the usual and become apparent as monuments and symbols, the next moment are integrated in a succession of the supposedly familiar. By the deep interferences with the island of Ibiza our view is changed and modified onto a new level of perception. The images behind become more interesting, the secondary is experienced more intensively than the extenuated clichés borrowed from the mainland, which cover the last remains of an original culture and only uses this as a tourist product which is part of the marketing plan. In this idyll of indifference there are no more true values to be found such as the formerly respected and admired integrated lifestyle of the Ibizans. ANDRIST's work shows jewels, images of intensive distinction, instants to be discovered as a new aesthetics. Lyrically, at times soft, at other times loud but always conclusive - images like a new love.

Opening: Thursday, 10th May 2007, from 19 hours.

5 TRASLADOS

4 INFRAESTRUCTURISMO
The fourth exhibition at LOCAL4 is titled INFRASTRUCTURISMO
It is part of the cycle I-A/I-VI by the artist and multi creative ANDRIST.

During the season ANDRIST is showing images of infrastructures of mass tourism lying waste. Arquitecture and installations that are only used for four to five months each year. Economic investments that have to be profitable in this short period, which leads to a short-sighted, agressive but also dynamic behaviour and way of thinking, because it only takes into account each season. This gigantic and forceful machine is geared down to a complete stop in winter and deserted melancholic landscapes arise, which envite us to dream and reflect.
These walk-in sculptures of public and social domain create a singular quietness and atmosphere. Thanks to the lyric poetry of Andrest's investigative photography we can discover Ibiza from a different point of view. These poetic and emphatic images direct our view beyond the stage-like surface. But the work also poses questions: Is today's tourism industry economically and ecologically sustainable ? Do the tourism concepts comply with the necessities of the 21st Century? How could the unused structures be put to use ?
The exhibition in LOCAL4 provides further food for reflection.

All work was created in the past three years and documents the new image of the Ibizan culture and society.

3 EIVISSIBLEMENTS
After the first two exhibitions about the transformation of the island of Ibiza from rural
to urban structures, part 3 of the cycle "I-A/I-VI"is dedicated to the subject of "new landscapes".

New landscape images emerge when we shift the focus onto other things than up to now. Books and brochures about Ibiza maintain a clicheed image of the island, which no longer corresponds to reality.
The work shown highlights the fact that our environment is full of strange and surprising images. If this new way of looking is surpressed or rejected, we are in danger of missing out on a contemporary and vibrant culture. The exhibition EIVISSIBLEMENTS is a plea for the rediscovery of the island of Eivissa

All work was created in the past three years and documents the new image of the Ibizan culture and society.

2 ICONOSOTROS
The images we have of ourselves show what ideals we aspire to and which dream images we
would like to receive. They are models and images of ourselves, which in turn become our role models. They impregnate us daily without being digested, an idealized incarnation. Images want to be kissed (W.T.J.Mitchell) and establish their own existence, which impresses and guides us. In us and through us they are reborn and even in the imperfect state are
transformed into role models. Images whose constructed codification and imagery define our reality. Second-Life subjects become object, object of desire. Can one buy one's children ? Is it possible to come up to one's projection of becoming ONESELF ? Is reality produced and just one of different choices ? Substitutes become protagonists, levels in relationships an administrated network. Characteristics disappear and are replaced by role play. Is it possible to invent oneself ? Models are the players on the publicity stage - we seemingly perceive these people, but only recognize them as actors of a stereotyped image and not their human image. ANDRIST's work approaches these actors with great respect and by means of it helps them to reconvey their human dignity

1 NOVA SANTA
Investigative photography by Edi Andrist, the first exhibition at local4, the new platform for contemporary art in Ibiza, examines the new architecture of Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera. Style extracts and elements of the new building fashion show the problems posed by the reformulation of the once genial simple Ibizan culture of growth. The dreams and yearings of the clients can be seen as in a line up. This investigation tells of the change of the rural dwelling to an urban structure, with all the new demands and necessities. A new middle class is settling in the countryside and transforms the Ibizan culture, grown over the centuries, without being able to offer independence and authenticity.
